TELUS brings Community Action to educational programs at Barkerville Historic Town

An inaugural donation from the TELUS Community Action Team towards Barkerville’s Educational Programming: K-12 School Students ensured the historic town’s School Program was action central at the start of Barkerville’s 150th anniversary season.

Students and teachers alike have experienced Barkerville’s exceptional history for decades through the National Historic Site’s award-winning, curriculum-based interpretive School Program.  Thanks to the TELUS’s recent gift, Barkerville’s sesquicentennial season launched to much additional fanfare, and much needed supplies, in May of 2012.

“TELUS is proud to have supported Barkerville’s Educational Programming for K-12 school students,” said Rod Peck, Manager of TELUS’ Field Support CSD Home Team in Quesnel.  “Having the opportunity to partner with the Barkerville Heritage Trust ensures that our youth understand the importance of the Cariboo Gold Rush and its place in Canadian history.”

Barkerville used the TELUS Community Action Team’s funds to help facilitate the comprehensive schedule for children who participated in the 2012 School Program, as well as purchase materials and supplies required for the implementation of fully-immersive, educational experiences.

“The support of TELUS’s Community Action Team, which allocates annual grants to charitable organizations in Northern British Columbia, is particularly significant during Barkerville’s 150th anniversary year,” said Judy Campbell, Barkerville’s Chief Executive Officer.  “TELUS continues to  be an important contributor to our Northern communities, and we hope this new relationship will continue for years to come.”

Other valued supporters to Barkerville’s Educational Programming: K-12 School Students include BC Hydro, the RBC Foundation and the Tweedledum Foundation.
