Contract Opportunity: Special Event and External Promotions Coordinator Barkerville Historic Town
Barkerville Historic Town is seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented Special Event and External Promotions Coordinator. This 44 week contract position, commencing May 1st, 2013, will be based out of Barkerville Historic Town and the successful candidate will have opportunity to work closely with Barkerville’s management team, regional partners, sponsors and local and provincial media.
Reporting to the Manager of Visitor Experiences, and working closely with Barkerville’s Marketing and Communications department, the Special Event and External Promotions Coordinator will identify, develop, promote and coordinate special event, conference, meeting and incentive travel opportunities for Barkerville Historic Town, in order to increase site visitation and visitor satisfaction on- and off-season. Marketing and promotional materials will be created and distributed via web-based and/or direct marketing channels (i.e. consumer show distribution, mail-outs, etc.) and subsequent events (from group travel opportunities to weddings, film location shoots, corporate and community retreats, etc.) will be proficiently coordinated.
This contract is to be a one-year renewable contract. Renewal will be based on the satisfactory completion of the previous contract year and the availability of adequate funding. Evaluation will be based on quality and effectiveness of promotional materials produced, distribution channels identified and employed, client response to coordinated events, and corresponding increases in travel to the Wells-Barkerville area.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 3-4 years event planning and promotions experience with not-for-profit organizations, approach work with creativity and clarity, have proven analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities, and demonstrated professional expertise. An appropriate post-secondary education or the equivalent combination of education and experience, as well as excellent written and oral presentation skills are a solid requirement. Computer literacy, including a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, is advantageous.
