2014 Dominion Day Celebration!
11:00 am Enjoy our Canada Cake on the inside porch of the Visitors’ Centre (#4)
11:45 am Street Parade assembles at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church (#12)
12:00 noon Street Parade begins from St. Saviour’s Anglican Church (#12)
12:15 pm Street Parade concludes at the Canadian Claim (#126) for the
official ribbon-cutting ceremony of our newest outdoor display:

Then we’re on to the clearing (#57) for some authentic Dominion Day games and a whole lot of old-fashioned fun!*
12:30 pm Barkerville’s Dominion Day Games Day opening ceremonies, with special guests Sir Matthew Baillie Begbie, Chief Justice of British Columbia, and the Reverend Mrs. Reynard, St. Saviour’s Church
12:35 pm Broad Jump: Children of all ages are invited to participate
1:20 pm Ladies Nail Driving: Ladies are invited to show their carpentry skills
1:40 pm Funny Face Contest: Children, bring your funniest or scariest face!
1:40 pm Candy Toss: Collect your stash of sweets for the winter
2:15 pm Cracker Eating Whistle Races: Teams of 4 children compete for the fastest chew on the creek
2:30 pm Ladies Egg and Spoon Races: A test of skill, dexterity and stamina
2:45 pm Sack Race: For the children
3:05 pm Egg Toss: Don’t end up with egg on your face
3:25 pm Greasy Pole Climb: For those of legal age
3:45 pm Tug O’ War: A show of strength for all
*Listed times are approximate, and events may change; if you wish to participate, please be at the clearing (#57) at least 15 minutes before each event.
Special activities this year:
The Spirit of Cariboo Cameron will visit the Methodist Church (#7) today and will speak with guests at 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm! Don’t miss his powerfully moving tale of lost love and fabulous fortune…
JUST ANNOUNCED: Join the Quesnel Fiddlers for a late-afternoon jamboree on the Phoenix Brewery Stage (#59)!
From 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm Barkerville will host a complimentary dance party, complete with costumed dancers, at the House Hotel (#39) – with special musical guests, the Milburn Mountain Boys!
And don’t forget that all of our regular summer programming is in full-swing*, the Theatre Royal will present two different musical shows: The Return of La Font & Ward’s Musical Revue at 1:00 pm and Campfires & Trails: The Captain Jack Crawford Story at 4:00 pm.
Just after dark there will be a fireworks display at the Shamrock Mine (between the two parking lots)!
*The regularly scheduled 2:15 pm town tour is cancelled due to the Dominion Day games.
