Rest in peace, Judge Begbie
It is with great sadness and profound regret that we must inform our beloved Barkerville community of the recent passing of one of its own.
Timothy Brian Sutherland, who for the past 13 seasons graced the Richfield Courthouse as the iconic (and infamous) Judge Matthew Baillie Begbie, died this past Thursday due to complications resulting from a hemorrhagic stroke he had suffered ten days prior.
We here at Barkerville are devastated by this rather sudden turn of events, and although we know the show must go on (and Tim would be the first in line to say and do that very thing, no matter the circumstances) we feel Tim’s absence as strongly as if our collective heart had been ripped from us without warning – because it has.
For those of you who knew Tim – as Judge Begbie, as a director, a historian, or a friend – we offer our sincerest condolences, and ask that you continue to raise a glass in his honour over the coming weeks and months, as we all attempt to adjust to the unthinkable: a life less extraordinary for its lack of a dear friend.
Arrangements will be made over the next few days regarding a celebration of the life of Tim Sutherland, and for those of you who would like information about time and place, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the list of folks requesting such details. We will be in touch as soon as we can.
In the meantime, if you have any particularly good memories or funny stories about Tim and his time here at Barkerville, please feel free to leave them in the comments section below (which will be moderated out of respect for the man who meant so much to so many).
